Divers traveling internationally must frequently convert these numbers mentally or use conversion tools to ensure they have enough breathing gas.

Industrial Machinery and Hydraulics

Industrial equipment, pneumatics, and hydraulic systems often operate at very high pressures. An imported hydraulic press might specify an operating pressure of 150 bar. An American maintenance technician needs to know this equates to roughly 2175 PSI to select the correct replacement hoses, fittings, and safety valves.

Water Pressure and Plumbing

Residential and commercial plumbing systems also rely on pressure measurements. A home water pressure regulator might be set to 3 bar in a European home, which is about 43.5 PSI—a comfortable pressure that won’t damage appliances. Understanding this conversion helps plumbers source the correct parts and diagnose pressure issues across different systems.
